Processing UVP data though ecotaxatools is aimed to create easy, clean code for managing large exports from Ecopart. These tools are intended to be used with the ‘raw’ export option. Ecopart does offer the ability to download data summaries. However, these can be limiting based on preset size bins or limited taxonomic scope. By downloading the raw export, you can manipulate the data in anyway that is appropriate for a project. EcotaxaTools uses classes to categorize the different objects which can be created through the main functions. When working with ecopart data, it will be imported as an ecopart_obj
. These are comprised of three main parts: the particle data, zooplankton data, and the meta data associated with all the casts.

There are several main functions which can operate on the ecopart_obj for organizing data. These are referred to as querying, adding, modifying, and analysis functions. The first three are for manipulating and organizing an ecopart_obj
. Analysis functions are used to take an ecopart_obj
and transform it into new data structures and other analysis tools.

There functions are to get quick information from an ecopart objects
These will add a column to all zoo_df files. However, they do not remove any data from the original data.
These will modify the ecopart_obj and return a new ecopart_obj. These modify the data in some new way.
These functions take an ecopart_obj and will produce new data structures with summary data. These are the link to most analysis products.
